My Journey Begins

This is the beginning of my journey. A journey that is exciting and scary and nerve-wracking all at once.

It's been 10 years since I began my journey into elementary education, it was exciting then too. Those sweet faces, my enthusiasm to learn all I could! The feeling was euphoric! It began to lose its luster as time went on, work life balance is difficult as a teacher. This school year I decided to make a change. My daughter needed more support from me, so I decided to take some time off work and be there to carry/walk with her through some difficult times. She is on her way to standing tall and I am ready to make a leap and try something different.

This time has allowed me to reflect on what I really wanted professionally. I love teaching, helping people, being creative, allowing my curiosity to drive me, trying new things, researching and attempting new methods of teaching, and creating lessons/concepts in a way that is easier to digest (students with disabilities need creative teaching in order to grasp concepts). I don't want to walk away from the things I love. A few years ago, a colleague of mine enrolled in a master's program for instructional technology. I was intrigued and a bit jealous from the start. I am not in a place in my personal life to be able to enroll in a master's program.... yet! I love learning new things and would love nothing more than to go back to school but with one in college and another is a few years, I just have to be patient. However, the more I read.... the more I saw you don't necessarily need a master's degree and in fact as a teacher I already have the skills needed to be an instructional designer. This type of job seemed too good to be true!! After some research, alas it is TRUE! A whole new world exists that I did not know about, HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE!
